The other day, someone shared with our team a poem called “Yes”, by William Stafford. Which is fitting because a jumper in our community, John Valverde, came on the podcast today with a message around a similar idea: saying yes. John spent sixteen years behind bars before becoming the first formerly incarcerated inmate to lead a global non profit. He’s a keynote at our Jump Club Boston festival next month (limited tickets remain) and shares a preview to his keynote today on the pod. We hope you like it, and we hope you continue to say yes, too.
PS - About that poem… It could happen any time, tornado, earthquake, Armageddon. It could happen. Or sunshine, love, salvation. It could, you know. That’s why we wake and look out—no guarantees in this life. But some bonuses, like morning, like right now, like noon, like evening. —"Yes", by William Stafford Shout outs to…. Jaime, currently somewhere in Sri Lanka, who shared that “I have been following you guys for a while and was inspired by this community to quit my job in wine sales management last July and pursue a more creative endeavor. I started my own clothing line called Birds of Paradise and make silk kimono robes and also work for myself in a consulting capacity in the wine business. I am way more fulfilled now that I am using my creative brain and have a much more flexible schedule which has allowed me to travel and explore the world while working remotely, most recently to Sri Lanka to complete my 200 hour yoga teacher training!” Things to know… Jump Club Boston will feature YouthBuild CEO John Valverde as a keynote, alongside a host of other world class leaders, makers, performers, and creatives. Some tickets still remain and we can’t wait to see you there soon. Full event specs can be found here. On the pod… Valverde joins the pod to share a preview of his jump story that takes us in and out of prison, and toward a global non profit he leads today. In the news… New Zealand has found that a four day work week works quite well! (CNBC). A few key differences between how different groups (see: millenials vs baby boomers) define the American Dream (Business Insider). Keep Jumping, The When to Jump Team Got a jump to share? We want to hear it! Have something to say? Tell us! Excited to meet up in real life? Join us at our global community meetup, Jump Club Boston, coming September 7th and 8th. |
